Hi guys,

I'm still looking for a MK5 gti or Ed30 to buy. I've found a nice ed30, but it doesn't have a few of the things I wanted with the car. These are the multifunction steering wheel, highline meter cluster and satnav.

Eventually I wanted my car to have the RNS-E 510 satnav unit, linked to a highline meter cluster (so that it shows the navigation directions on the meter cluster) and the multifunction steering wheel. How difficult is it to retro fit these? Is it more difficult to add the RNS-E to a car which DIDN'T come with the satnav option?

Thanks guys,
Aran

Simplest (possibly the only?) way for Highline is to change the whole clocks, get them coded by someone who knows what they are doing. Mileage and functionality can be problematic on earlier cars I think.

There's a set of R32 clocks with Highline in the for sale section at £185.00 at the mo.

The MFSW buttons, simple to fit IF you have DSG wheel/DSG car, usually just plug and play (although I had to code mine), if your car is a manual it is a lot harder, needs additional controllers.

The RNS 510 shouldn't pose too many problems if yours is an Eddy, earlier cars can suffer from battery drain issues to due to some CAN gateway issue. I'm no expert so best pm'ing someone like Eddie-NL who will be able to assist no doubt.

Can all be done but will cost you.

Mfsw £200-250
Controller £80
Airbag loom £30
Highline clocks £150-200 plus whatever to code them (talk to Kalu)
Rns510 £500-600 depending on which variant you choose.
May need a newer canbus to prevent battery drain, if your car is '08 and newer I think you'll be ok.

Talk to Kalu and if he lives within driving distance it wouldn't be much of an issue to fit highline clocks.  He can do 974 clocks.
Eddie nl sells the controllers, rns510, etc.

Both guys are super knowledgeable and great to deal with.

Personally I wish I had bought a car with highline clocks at least.

If you are not dsg, you will need the loom as you need a full new wheel. My brother needed a new controller on his 58 golf but that might have been for cruise control mainly

Even with my 2008 Jetta with DSG and cruise, I had to fit a new steering controller and loom. Best off checking which controller you have with VCDS to make sure.
