Its good for my bad back Robin.... the hot ass is just  a bonus!  :chicken:

....Ah, now I understand. Heat treatment can definitely help injuries or similar conditions, especially muscular. Sorry to hear that, Rich.

Don't tell me you've never had the heated seats on full chat and the air con on LO, just to kill a few polar bears. :surprised:

....Never, I've never had heated seats fitted in my car, I don't like them, and anyway my car has Recaro's. If it's a cold (or wet) day I'll dress accordingly.

Do u need a computer to let you know what to wear?

....Not entirely but this iPad App helps to know what weather to expect, to dress accordingly and, being German, it's incredibly reliable:

^ It's called WeatherPro and mine is the free version.

Nice setup Robin

....Thanks  :happy2:

Mackie mixer, and studio reference monitors plus big Mackie 450W stage monitor connected as well, also in the setup with mics and miles of cables! Some Logic controller Apps on the iPad too. I'm sat in the sweet spot - No wonder my post count is so high!

....It's my old G5 (non-Intel) but it's such a nice object that I decided to leave it in dead space to enjoy its funky apperance. I use a 27" iMac with wireless keyboard and TrackPad.  :happy2:

The iPad stand is made by German K&M who are well known for their music stands - Great product which easily swivels to and from landscape to portrait.

Heated seats are pure win....  :happy2:

....Nah, they're gay. Who wants a hot arse?

Heated seats (and steering wheel) are an important part of an integrated thermal management approach to reduce unncessary engine loadings: by fitting heated seats (and steering wheel, not an option for our Golfs I'm afraid) the energy required to heat the cabin and any occupants to what is regarded as "comfortable" level can be reduced by up to 35%, which is not insignificant.

@Robin what this means is less engine power required to drive the alternator and ancillary devices and more power available for moving the vehicle.

More information on thermal management is available in this paper, amongst other sources:

....What scientics regard or term as "comfortable" for the car cabin occupants, and in particular the driver, will vary from individual to individual. For example, I feel distinctly uncomfortable with a car heater on for longer than just a few minutes to up the general temperature and I might even begin to feel drowsy. I am more comfortable using my clothing to adjust my body temperature and comfort.

The fact that you can hear the engine's revs change, if at a standstill, when switching on the car heater or demister etc clearly demonstrates that more energy/fuel is being used. However, I don't personally care two figs about energy efficiency levels when driving. I would never want to buy an electric or similar car because I would miss hearing the engine sounds which I enjoy so much.

So if I understand it correctly, by not using features such as the heater and/or heated seats, a car has more motive power available. That works well for me  :happy2:

If you want some warmth in the cabin you will use less energy by using a seat heater instead of the normal blower/aircon. Less energy being used to heat the cabin -> less alternator load -> less parasitic loss on the engine -> more power available for things like driving.

QED, enthusiasts prefer seat heaters (as extra layers of clothes are greater mass).

....I'm sure that good thermal undergarments when it's cold are light and thin enough not to amount to a significant greater mass of clothing.

My Recaro seats don't have a heated option and neither did I tick that option box on my original GTI seats order to Wolfsburg.

Loving the scientific ideas about heated seats being better. Not really worried which is better because I love my heated seats anyway! One of my favourite extras. Great on a frosty moring and as said above it can be real soothing on a bad back! As for feeling like you've wet yourself, well I've never done that so I don't know how it feels!!
