RNS 510 no battery drain firmware experience?
« on: January 19, 2013, 02:51:17 pm »
Has anyone used an RNS 510 with a non battery drain firmware so as to avoid the cost of replacing the Volkswagen CAN Gateway?

Some RNS are for sale on eBay with this firmware installed and it's tempting as this saves the cost of updating the Volkswagen CAN Gateway. Does this work?  Are there any drawbacks eg is this a bad idea as the RNS 510 should be coded into the car to allow things like distance tracking when in tunnels?

I don't have a highline display or MFSW and don't plan on fitting them so not fussed about the need to code these.

I've read version A and B are the safest bets but no guarantee.

Where abouts are you located as there's a few sellers on here that can supply, code and fit  RNS' and do the change the can if required.

Personally I got the can changed to a newer one as I didn't like the idea of running modified firmware
