Missing Changing Gear?

where i feel i may miss changing gears, all disappears when 90% of the time on the roads is spent in stop start traffic.

See i was hoping that would be the case, just dont know if it is.....I love changing gears with a stick...the only benefit of DSG is better mileage.

I didnt find it boring NOT having to shell out 1000 quid for a new clutch after my remap......

I love changing gears with a stick...the only benefit of DSG is better mileage.

....Go with what you love best but don't dismiss DSG without trying it. I never use DSG's stick by tiptronically nudging it to shift gear - It doesn't feel right but the flappy paddles do feel right for some reason.

As far as I'm concerned the process of driving is that my brain digests all the road conditions and my car status and sounds it can gather and I 'think manual' and engage an appropriate gear as quickly as I can. The DSG delivers what I ask the car to do (in M-mode, not automatic D-mode of course) faster than any human can and 100% faultlessly.

DSG doesn't give better mpg unless you are in D-mode the whole time but that, as Mat says, is boring - Very boring indeed! Think Manual but Drive DSG (in M-mode except where D is an advantage).

Yeah I end up in this situation quite a lot, although more like 60-70% of the time. This is where I really appreciate DSG...used to really hate traffic jams in my previous manual car.

I have also noticed that since getting the BCS TBE fitted I am using M mode more often now...love the sound on boost

Get it modded for more power, DSG comes into it's own when you've got more boost! :)

I am planning on going to stage 1 in the next month or so...can't wait

I have to say, I have nothing against DSG (and because of a dodgy left ankle my next car will probably be one), but I love the Golf's manual gearbox. It has a lovely action, and it does feel great going up or down the gears.

.... You're right and there's no right or wrong about this but it's simply about which you personally prefer.

Hey up guys. Ive had my GTI just over a month now....its a DSG. Loved the gear box...and i think i still do. Trying to work out if i miss going through the gears on empty sweeping roads.

As much as i love the DSG ( been in 6th gear at 50 cruzing around) cant put my finger on whats missing....Have i made a mistake not getting manual or will this feeling pass?  

Only time will tell i guess.....any one in the same boat?

This is exactly what would happen to me if I got a DSG.

i think i will just have to use the paddles more. I think the main reason why i find it hard is because i always drive with my left hand on the gear stick. I still drive around with my left hand on it when im just in drive mode.

I find it very weird having both hands on the wheels unless im hitting a sweeping bend at speed. I think that why i find down shifting with the paddles very odd and not natural.....

Hopefully over time i will enjoy it.
