I love changing gears with a stick...the only benefit of DSG is better mileage.
....Go with what you love best but don't dismiss DSG without trying it. I never use DSG's stick by tiptronically nudging it to shift gear - It doesn't feel right but the flappy paddles do feel right for some reason.
As far as I'm concerned the process of driving is that my brain digests all the road conditions and my car status and sounds it can gather and I 'think manual' and engage an appropriate gear as quickly as I can. The DSG delivers what I ask the car to do (in M-mode, not automatic D-mode of course) faster than any human can and 100% faultlessly.
DSG doesn't give better mpg unless you are in D-mode the whole time but that, as Mat says, is boring - Very boring indeed! Think Manual but Drive DSG (in M-mode except where D is an advantage).
