Smooth Grill - Number plate....
« on: December 21, 2012, 05:58:00 pm »
Just wondering where all of you that have smoothed your grills put your number plate?

I dont really wanna cover the lower grill with it and reduce the air flow & plus I think this looks naff..

Do you all put it in your window? or just not bother with one at all (both which as as illegal as one another lol)

Pictures would be great if anyone has some :)

Cheers Ears :)

Myself and Monte plus a few others both have ours stuck on with strong magnets.

Excuse the dumbness but how do you attach the magnet to the bumper itself then?

Magnets stuck behind grille, magnet secured to plate = win  :happy2:

....for a while. I've found that not matter how clean you keep the inside of the plate (be it felt, cloth, tape etc) it will eventually scratch the grille  :sad1:

Mine has been in the window for a few weeks now, whilst I try to think of a better solution....

Magnets are secured using Araldite, then the back of the number plate covered with felt.

I've used magnets for a while on my smoothed plate and they are incredibley strong but after Carlo (Monte) told me about his scratching his smoothed plate and going to double sided suction cups I ordered some of those from eBay, must put them on.  :ashamed:

If you want the "how to" on the magnet mod.....

And the double sided suction cups from eBay. I think these were the ones, I can't remember now!

Bloody hell, you could hold a Rhino to a wall with those puppies! N35's are more than enough and are a little cheaper too.  :happy2:

In my opinion the suckers are 1000000x better than the magnets.

I use 5x 30mm double sided suckers, and they are stronger and safer than the magnets.

I have a video clip somewhere....

I have a horrific vision of me  booting it on the motor way, the pads failing and poor Norris behind me getting decapatated by my number plate which I have subsequently ran over and flung upwards into his path and through his window, his poor wife Dorris if mortified!

Really? I wouldn't feel comfortable with just suckers.

I thought you had magnets Monte?

Please everyone Believe me when I say… if I were to sit in front of the car, bum on the floor, and I grabbed the number plate with both hands and pulled…..I would probably break the smoothed grill into pieces.

The suckers are 100% stronger and more reliable than the magnet, and because there is no movement at all there are no scratches like you get from the magnets.
