I think some of the Jack Reacher stuff TC was able to pull off and do so really well. But he just wasn't menacing enough and that was down to stature/size. By the end of the film, I was a fan of Reacher but not TC's portrayal of it.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Tom Cruise is never going to be convincing as a hard hitting tough guy like actors such as Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, Denzel Washington, and so many others.

^^^^ now your talking, Clint would have been perfect. :notworthy:

I watched Gran Torino a couple of months back for the first time and that man has presence in bucket loads. I wouldn't mess with him now and he's 80 odd.

Clint would have made a good job of directing it too, not that whoever directed the Jack Reacher movie didn't (I haven't seen the movie or read the books).

One of my favourite movies is Clint Eastwood's first ever as a Director - "The Outlaw Josey Wales"  :notworthy:

Presence and charisma is something which Tom Cruise simply doesn't have. Don't get me wrong, he's very good but he doesn't have it.

Apparently, Tom Cruise bought the rights to the books before the author was famous. It looks like it is proving to have been a financially very worthwhile investment and no-one else was ever going to get a look-in to play the role of Jack Reacher. The ambitions of short men, eh.
