Thinking of swapping MKV for an S3 or selling?
« on: December 24, 2012, 06:08:43 pm »
Hi there, I know I haven't had the car long and I do truely love it, but Ive been thinking of going for a GT30 turbo kit and other add ons.

But I'm thinking of going for a S3, one because there 4wd and two because there just a better base model for bigger power.

Right well I'm not sure what to go for an S3 or a MKII TT, ideally an S3 would be much better base for big power as really that's my goal :)

Unfortunately I cannot afford an Golf R :(

What do you guys think?

Well around the same price */- 1,000.

May try my luck selling the golf after Xmas if I can't get any luck with some sort of swap.

Hmm, depends what the power is for..  Is it for the drag strip where 4wd grip is important, or for a high powered track day car?

If the latter then you can get away with FWD and nicely setup motor with LSD, big brakes etc.  And as your changing out the K03 or the K04 for big power, then it's pretty much redundant if you start with the GTI (which you have) or lose money on the change up to the K04 S3.

Of course if it's the former and 4WD is important for the strip 0-60's 1/4 etc., then grab an S3 for ultimate times.

Well I have an edition 30 now mate, but even at 300 on stage I it's very easy to light up the front wheels. Plus really I miss my 4wd on my R32

So yes I'm after an S3

Even with stage 2+ you'll see a benefit from an S3 over an ED30. What you have to think of is that here in the UK the weather/climate is generally changing for the wetter and we now get as many days a year when the roads are wet as when they are dry ( subjective observation, not looked up!).

Most power will spin away on a fwd car and as you increase power, you'll spin away more and more.

If you are after all weather grip, big power and zero torque steer the only way is 4WD.

I know, I've been there!

PS.....it is fun though with fwd.
Golf R gone.

Exactly my point mate tbh, although I'd still love STEVE Ps golf :)

But we'll see may stick an add up for the golf.
