open grilles for xmas - not keen on the mess behind!
« on: December 26, 2012, 11:08:47 am »
So ive wanted some open grilles and the wife got me some for Christmas :drinking:

I had already pre-empted the fact that I wouldnt want to see the blue hoses to my FMIC ...so I bought 'closing element' 1KO 853 950 to see if it might do the trick....but it turns out I think it must be for the non GTI models...

So what are my options, what have people done....think I will probably end up making a flat black plastic plate to blank off the view through to the horns and crap behind, I am thinking of routing a cold air duct to the filter side, drivers side will probably just be blanked off.

I also see there is the actual duct for the cars with the extra radiator, but i doubt this would fit with the extra intercooler pipework inplace.

I have the Open Fog Grills with rear covers on my Eddy and they fit a treat. Do yours look like the ones I have (pics below), if so they should fit ok. I'm not sure that part number is correct for the old GTI fog grills that they used to come with the first Mk5 GTI's?

iirc the standard vw open grilles will not fit with your forge IC hoses unless you remove the back parts.
Without traction power is nothing!
