pioneer F9310BT into mk5 gti
« on: December 26, 2012, 09:18:36 pm »
I'be just bought a pioneer avic f9310bt sat nav unit for my 2005 gti but it didn't come with any kind of installation guide and a quick search online only gives info in French for some reason. Has anyone fitted this unit into a mk5 golf? I'd be very grateful for a few pointers if so  :happy2:

i have this stereo, even thought i am quite handy like that, im getting my guy to fit it for £25 next week, as the GPS, Mic, Ipod and steering wheel controls need setting up as well....

so unless your pretty decent and know it all, might be worth get an expert to get it right first time....up to you though

Good luck  :happy2:

It's definitely a bit fiddly but I'm willing to give it a go myself as the guy I know who can fit it for me is a fair few miles away and its just sitting here waiting to fitted. The child in me just can't wait!

£25 isn't bad at all though. Has the guy who's fitting it for you mentioned anything about the canbus gateway? It's unclear whether we need a newer gateway to enable the mfsw integration, parking sensor display and climate control display. I've searched online nobody seems to have a definitive answer  :sad1:

Position of the Bluetooth Mic also seems to be a topic of debate too. Most people say its best in the drivers a pillar.

Seems a good unit overall though. Let me know how the fitting goes!

Yeah i got a Canbus already pre wired on mine as it was pulled from a crashed VW (stereo in perfect nic though).

Yeah i though £25 was a banging price all in as well. I agree, most people run mic up the driver pillar and have it there.

Yeah i will post pics once fitted and tested  :happy2:

Quick update on the status of my unit...

I fitted it in myself last week as I wanted to make sure it worked ok. Fitting was pretty easy, there's a really good guide on youtube for removing all of the dash trim and you literally only need a t20 torx and something to prise the trim away without marking it (a screwdriver or in my case my sons plastic toy knife lol).

I connected everything up and it all seems to work very well. The dash illumination can be changed really easily to match the golf, bluetooth is a doddle to set up and the nav found satellites almost immediately. The sound quality is also a lot better than the standard vw units and gives a lot more options for tweaking things. I'm also able to stream music from my htc now which is great  :happy2:

I did however run into a couple of issues. Firstly, the unit was supplied with the wrong bluetooth mic. The 'mic in' slot takes a 2.5mm jack but i was supplied with a 3.5mm jack. I bought an adapter from maplin for a couple of quid but managed to get the seller to send me a new one anyway. Secondly, the unit comes with a tmc radio receiver that needs to be connected to the radio antenna in the car BUT mk5's have a twin fakra radio connector for am/fm reception and the pioneer unit has a din connection so you will need to buy an adapter. I've read that connects2 have one and there are a few on ebay but the reception can suffer with the cheap units. The seller is kindly sending me one out so hopefully it works! Lastly, the rear parking sensor and climate control display function doesnt seem to work for me. I have an older canbus gateway ('K' i think) so I'm guessing I'll need a newer one coded for these things to work. MFSW controls work perfectly without coding but the highline display will no longer show the nav route or radio info as it did with the mfd2. Again, these could be related to my older canbus but not sure.

Overall, I'm happy with it but need to refit the bits mentioned above to get it all running properly.

Only negative is that poweramp on my htc doesnt want to show any streaming music tags so I cant see media information on the display.

Oh and I almost forgot, did you get an ipod cable with your unit? If so, could you tell me the part number please as I didn't get one with mine but would like the option to plug in my ipod touch

Ah thanks. Managed to find the iPod connection cable easy enough on ebay but the other wire was proving more elusive. I don't have an iPhone so its not essential for me but nice to know that its available if needed.

I fitted the aerial adapter to the unit on Friday but ran into some issues. The two fakra connectors in the car wouldn't connect to the twin fakraplug on the wire. It seems that there isn't enough of a gap between where the two fakra connectors should go for them to both be attached at the same time. I tried various things but could only connect one. I was also unsure where to connect the blue 12v. There is a spare blue wire in the main harness of the unit but I didn't want to risk it.

As a result the radio reception is still crap and it could only lock onto one local station regardless of which fakra wire was connected. Gonna order the connects2 aerial adapter and see if it fairs better.Just need to know if I can connect the blue wire to the spare blue on the main wiring harness.

Thanks Gene. Positivity is always good and as long as I know it can be done ill keep trying. I've fitted it all myself so these kind of problems are expected I guess. I just need to try and find the correct wire and then take the dash apart for the third time lol.

Sound quality is sooo much better with these units I'm sure you'll agree

hopefully getting mine fitted on Friday....also got this bad boy going in too:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261106521883?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Everyone says that it is insane for the price. and with me needing my boot for work a lot (PC Technicain - Pc always going in the boot) this is such a powerful 8"sub and takes up very little room.

People say it sounds like a 10" or 12". Cant wait !!!

sh*t !!! I was just un-boxing my stereo ready for Friday, and it appears i may have a cable / tuner box missing.

I dont have the part called RDS-TMC Tuner in my box, (see page 6 or 8 in this manual)
http://docs.pioneer.eu/Manuals/AVIC_F930BT_CRD4573_installation_manual/

see  is this essential? or can just use car arial into a convertor into the head unit?

Any help would be great...

As far as I know its used to receive traffic updates so without it you won't get them. I guess it depends how vital you view this function as you could just connect the aerial adapter straight to the unit and live without it. If it was me though, I'd want to have all features up and running as they should. This is what you need:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=300843424164

Seller is London based according to the listing so order now and specify that you need it asap, you might get lucky with delivery. If it doesn't arrive in time its easy to remove the unit and fit when it does.

@Gene, the spec of that sub looks monster!! I've got two young kids so the only sub I can fit in the boot is a toy you can play with in the bath. Had an e46 with Harman kardon sub before and it was awesome. Miss the acoustics of that car  :sad1:

yeah i had found a post on pioneer website explain the traffic function after i posted that. I think i will be fine with out it for now, or maybe purchase at a later date.

I know what you mean, i hate not having decent audio in the car. but serious, that sub would hardly take any room

Just get it all fitted and you won't be disappointed. Sound quality is head and shoulders above my old mfd2 and I'm very happy with it.

I'd love to know how the parking sensor and climate control display looks so once you've had it fitted please let me know :happy2:
