The follower will be replaced.

How many miles are on the car? Has it had an oil change every 10k miles?

This may have happened to your car then if they're saying a replacement camshaft is needed: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,41330.0.html

Are you running a hpfp?

This is real barstard - I have an '07 too and am trying to find the time to replace the follower. My dealer told me it wasn't an issue...http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,57710.0.html

My dealer told me the same thing... the service manager didn't even know what I was on about - asked the lead mechanic, and he said he's never replaced one :stupid:  Doesn't fill you with much confidence.  Wouldn't even give me a price, said it would have to be a time based job... cough... fook that!

I think this must be a lot to do with dealers seeing newer cars, less than 3 years old, standard and less GTI's than other models, where problems with the Cam follower are few and far between.  Once the cars get older people seem to go to indy's who know a lot more about this problem.

Too late its at VW now and all stripped waiting for new camshaft to be fitted tomorrow.
Just got off the phone with VW asking about the cam follower and was told it was the camshaft thats worn not the cam follower?

I had the same problem at as you which only became apparent with the engine under high loading after I remapped it. I would ask them to keep your old camshaft so you can see the damage though  :happy2: Its generally the faulty cam follower which causes the wear to the camshaft lobe itself. When they removed mine the follower and cam lobe were both equally well worn. Had the DV done at the same time (which was split) and been running like a dream since
