I dont like my 58 Plate as much as I did my 05
« on: December 29, 2012, 08:07:37 pm »

I dont know why , it just doesnt seem as nice to drive. I seem to struggle to change gear as smoothly as I did with my 50k mile 2005 , plus everything feels 'tight' , is it because its only got 19k miles on? Is there a difference in characteristic between the early and late 2.0 TFSi engine , I know they are two different engine codes , I'm wondering why I just cant get used to driving this , normally I gel with a new car within a few days and can drive it smoothly straight away , but I'm struggling with this 'un! MPG is worse than the 2005 car as well , as is the stereo , its got the silver button MP3 RCD300 but the deletion of the two speakers over the 05 spec has really hurt sound quality IMO - far too much treble and not enough bass and mid range. The thing looks damn nice though , I dont know if I should percivere with it or chop it in , I suppose a remap and a better head unit might help - or would just putting more miles on it help?

The 05 plate GTIs had a lot of goodies that got cut because of costs (supposedly) eg green tint replacing blue tint windows. IIRC, it goes take a while for the engine to "loosen up". Think mine got better after 40k.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I think a bit more mileage will help. My 05 has certainly only got better over the years. It was never bad, but now at nearly 54k I think it is at its sweet spot, perfectly loosened up and great to drive. I think if you give it a bit more time it will get better.

My 05 got nice and loose at around 40k miles and she still feels just as great at 104k miles - In fact with the handling mods she feels even better  :notworthy:

It looks like I will have to wait then!! I'd like to keep it a good long while anyway as a White GTI with 18s and leather is what I always wanted!

I feel the same way about mine,,,,

After my mk4 that had huge mileage on it,( but felt really quick )  the mkv feels really tight and unwilling to rev.
But again it has really low miles on it.

Ahh right , mine has 19k , I guess it just takes miles because my 2005 one had 38k on it when I bought it and just felt a lot more 'eager' if I can put it like that.
