HDMI Cable
« on: December 30, 2012, 11:07:46 am »
Morning folks,

One for the home AV experts here. Anyone recommend a decent HDMI cable to hook my my PS3 to my TV?

The current one i have is a cheap £1  jobie from Amazon. The last few months, the picture and sound would cut out intermittently for a few seconds and then back on. Ive read a few people who bought the same cable are having the same issues.

Just doing a bit of research and this cable from thatcable.com seems to get good reviews:
http://www.thatcable.com/product/HDMI-Male-to-Male-Cable-Type-A-%28Standard%29-Version-1-3BHDMI-1.3b

Anyone else recommend a cable they use? (looking around the £5 mark)

Thanks

Rich

The one I got off Amazon was £1.03, including delivery. Never had any issues with it.

there was a thread on this recently.

IIRC Saint Steve (who works in AV) mentioned that HDMI cables are built to a standard, and for non-professional use any cable will do. usually non-branded PS3 ones from HMV and the like are cheap (or at least they were when i bought mine years ago) and they've served me well including 3 house moves/changing set ups etc with no issues whatsoever. in fact i'm using it to type to you now (my PC is hooked up to my TV via the aforementioned HDMI cable).

Like most AV the shorter the cable the better sound/picture, my HDMI is 1.5m long and has served me well since PS3 launch day when I collected mine from the local woolworths (remember them?)

I received a fancy HDMI cable for free when I bought my 3D TV a few years ago, it had an RRP of £79.

It packed in just over a year later and I used a £5 gold plated cable that I bought from ASDA in 2008 and I could not notice any difference in the picture quality between the 2. The £5 cable is still in use now.

Surely a digital signal is being transmitted or not....I can't see how a cable can affect this as its sending 0's and 1's unless I have misunderstood the technology?
