Precautions to take when once Re-mapped?

Guys,

Once you have re-mapped a Mkv GTi, other than thrashing the hell out of the car and using the map to it's full extent all the time (which most of us probably don't do), are there any other precautions that you should take to minimise problems or damage to the main components on the car;

I.e. ?

• Should the cambelt be replaced more regularly, i.e. 40k instead of every 60k/4 years?
• Should you replace the turbo or perhaps increase servicing in relation to it, so you minimize risk of it blowing?
• Does the clutch need to be replaced more regularly, or is it highly recommended to upgrade to a racing clutch/R32 clutch?
• Do the brakes need to be upgraded to cope with the increase in energy and obviously speed?
• Is a bigger intercooler/further engine cooling definitely required, or is it not necessarily required?
• Do fuel pumps and oil filters have to be changed?

I'm talking in relation to specifically a bluefin map really, or a revo map of similar power (stage2 iirc?), I'm not aiming for more than 240bhp which will be more than enough. All the other components will remain standard but I want to make sure I'm not opening the car up to all sorts of obvious mechanical issues, so it would be nice to work to prevent these.

Personally, I'd change the service to Time & Distance (every year or 10k) and upgrade the brakes before remapping.  I've got R32 brakes (345mm) waiting to go on mine, Leon Cupra and S3 brakes are the same.  They also fit under 17s if you've got them!

I always try to do my cambelt every 40k, but thats because older VW 2.0 16vs threw off their belts at 45k.

Intercoolers and fuel pumps can be changed when you get bored of the power, and I'd leave the rest alone until it breaks.

Oh and I'd get a rolling road test done on it before you start throwing power at it.  I found out mine was 50bhp down, so I want those problems fixed first before they cause me other issues.

i've said it many times before, the clutch in the std GTI is a weak point if your car has already had a hard life.

i would budget for one incase the OEM item starts slipping post remap.

If your only looking at going to 240 then the standard brakes maybe fine as the ed30 with 230 standard is equiped with the same brakes and they would do but as prev said r32 set up is the best value and worth while. If you are hard on your car then things will go its that simple its the same modifing then wringing its neck things will go.

I've found my OE 312s absolutely awful, and my GTI's about 50bhp down.

I once missed a turning at 40 as the brakes just faded and felt like they weren't working.  I used to have 4 pots, but I started braking much earlier!

I keep meaning to but haven't. can never find the 345mm r32 ones on some websites.

I won't be running anything more than a Revo stage 2 (the 255ps map) and an ITG panel filter.
The rest of the car will be performance standard with Monza II reps.

What disc/pads would be a good upgrade with that power in mind?

Go for the AP kit much lighter and much more powerul than the 312's- A bigger real world performance mod than 40 hp!

Fuel pump cam follower is something to keep an eye on. (Check every oil change or few thousand miles)  I believe they have been revised with a harder coating though

You should really be changing your oil and filter every 5k miles!  The 10k miles is really only for 'standard' performance VAG motors.

....Oh    - I thought that 20k mile intervals was for 'standard' motors.

My Ed 30 although Standard, enjoyed oil changes every 5k, it costs less than £50, so a no brainer to me.

Did it with all my other cars, so no change with this one.

The Roc R has enjoyed an oil change already too!
