I like the Mk7 a lot more than I did the Mk6 when it first came out - maybe thats because it's like a sharpened up Mk6 and I'm already used to the styling , who knows? I'm hoping to get a run out in one soon , if I do I will take some pics and do a little write up of my thoughts.


....My initial thoughts about preferring the Mk7 to the Mk6 are like yours too.

Bumping this thread. Just drove a CW MK7 GTI. In some ways it was familiar. The interior had been updated a little and it felt a tiny bit more comfortable. Driving the car felt almost the same esp low speed around town. Out on the dual carriageway the power delivery as smooth. No jolt. It didn't seem to have that "exciting" feeling and I suspect most of it is down to the fact that I have a Stage 1 ED30.

Up close, I loved the styling cues. Wasn't sure about the panoramic sunroof. Didnt like the OPS system (sensors are larger than on the mk5 and more noticeable). The satnav is larger and seems more user friendly. The car I drove didnt have the radar. I can imagine it is useful but very much interferes with the look of the car.

In all honesty, I was blown away by it until I pushed it. It feels "safe" rather than exciting. But most of all, it didn't give me palpitations the way the MK5 did.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I watched this a few weeks ago and i will defo be skipping the MK7. Bring on the MK8 already  :evilgrin:

(ps - due to money - think my next car will be the Golf R in 2 years time)

But you are comparing a heavily modified mk5 to a standard mk7. Of course one is going to appear a bit "luke warm"

A mk5 still looks better then the mk6 and 7 regardless of whatever's been done or not done to it IMO , and a lot of others including pundits agree

dont think it will look better than the R (which doesnt look all that) plus 4 tailpipes, is that really needed for a car with less than 300BHP?

I've never been a fan of four exhausts on the 6 pot E46 M3's... On a four pot its even worse.  It's gotta be a V8 at least.

Not a fan of the 7 styling either, 6R best so far IMO.  I like the Rocco R too.. A cheaper Ed35 with a fat ass.

Plus better brakes and suspension... getting there price wise, didn't know they had a Twin Turbo too (lmao) :laugh:
