Import Tax and VAT
« on: January 04, 2013, 10:51:10 am »
I am thinking of buying some parts for my Golf off German ebay.de

I was wondering if the parts I get will be hit by import tax and VAT?

Germay is part of EU, no Import or VAT to pay.

Only good from outside EU will attract VAT (NO IMPORT TAXES on most goods), VAT is calculated on both the item price stated on customs label AND on the shipping cost shown on the label.

You can import anything upto £18 and no VAT/Import is charged, upto £36 marked as GIFT same applies, above that there will be VAT to pay plus "Customs clearing fee" (Stealth Tax) of £8 or £13.50 on top of VAT to pay.

A top tip for buying from USA is to ask the buyer to ship in pre-paid box/envelope etc as it does NOT show the price and you wont get charged VAT on that!.

Thats what I thought thanks for the confirmation!

Tamiyoman, funny that you replied as a purchased a 1/10th scale Golf mK4 v5 from Hong Kong a few years ago, thinking it was a bargain until I got hit by import tax and vat, nearly doubled the price!!

It happens  :scared:

I had one myself, painted it black like my MK4 1.8T.

Had a Tamiya Mk5 GTI painted white (Candy) but sold it when some guy who wanted a white one offered me good money for it

Just been on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-58206-Volkswagen-Golf-V5-FF01-INCREDIBLY-RARE-NIB-/380380726928?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item5890754690

Can't believe the price!

At least I paid less including extra taxes :happy2:

Ah thats Tony "Incredibly Rare" Gascoigne's item, most of his listings have the words "Rare" or "Incredibly Rare" in them   , nice chap he is but he needs to lose the "rare" crap.

You can still pick them up from HK (Which is where he probably got his) for around £110 if you know where to look  :signLOL:
