Watermarks??
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:13:41 pm »
Watermarks??

Speak to me peeps. Do I need them on my images (mainly to prevent images of my car being used by dodgy peoples to scam on eBay, Pistonheads etc).

I'm not bothered about peeps on here copying, pasting, colouring and playing with the images as they are just snaps.

So, If i do need watermarks, how do I do it?

Look at some of the pros in the detailing section. A watermark identifies your photo and should do so in an unobtrusive way but should also be difficult to photoshop out.

If they didn't steal your pics, they'd have taken someone elses. If you're worried about the reg, you can wipe that bit out.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thanks for the info.  :happy2:

Yes, something that not too noticeable and that can't be cropped out. I usually blur the registration number (when I remember).

More hassle than its worth to be honest. Unless you dont mind whacking a watermark across the middle...

Which graphics program do you have?
Watermarks are easy, all they are essentially is a seperate layer in a different opacity.
You can save the layer to use on your photos.

^^^^ I've got photoshop but what you've recommended could just as well been written in swahili, I'm not a photo fiddler so am more than a bit dim when it comes to such matters. I will have a look though, thank you.

Open your photo into Photoshop.
Then Click... Layer > New Layer > Then add some text and change the Opacity (use the slider) in the Layers panel, usually on the right hand side.

A very simple one:

Or just Download this and open with Photoshop.
Just whack in your photo on the Car photo layer and save. :happy2:

^^^ nice photo horrible watermark..

I find it depends on the type of photo if I use a WM or not...

Meet & Show photos tend to have them on in the lower corners to promote the website

Staffs-VW Gathering by JonMorgan., on Flickr

Travel images wave my logo WM on them as they'll hit my blog which can be blogged by the masses to tumblr, pinterest etc etc... so it's an easy way of linking back...

General shots though I never bother...

Lol, it was a quick watermark mate for the OP.
I think you've missed the point of a watermark entirely with yours... What's the point in it? Its no more a watermark than a graphic in the corner of the photo... I can edit that out and use your photo in 30 secs tops. :stupid:

Not at all, I understand watermarks and there usage in all different media formats. If you’re selling to the public then the need of a “monster” watermark (like yours) is needed so the image isn’t ripped off.
But when trying to capture peoples eye with the image you produce, the last thing you want is an over the top watermark which distracts and ruins the photo produced.

With the right software anyone can remove a watermark be it a simple logo in the corner or one which is placed through the entire image.

Someone might be able to reproduce one of my images in 30 seconds without the watermark, but my lawyer would be dropping them a DMCA Infringement notice and bill the for use of the said image if someone did.
