I think the DV is split *fixed & Wow!!*
« on: January 06, 2013, 11:02:28 am »
Hi,

Driving yesterday and again today i've noticed the turbo kicking in when put my foot down but then losing power and the whooshing sound becoming louder when this happens.

I'm assuming its the DV split, i'm not sure it's ever been replaced and my GTi is 2005 plate.

Questions:

- How much do these cost to replace (in a garage)
- Anyone recommend anywhere in Sheffield that can do it quickly i.e so don't have leave car there for a long time
- I assume this isn't under my warrenty (with garage bought from, I took 2 year warrenty out) or am I wrong ?

Thanks in advance :)

*fixed now, see my latest reply :)

Not sure whether it'll be covered by warranty or the price a garage will charge but the part is roughly £35.

An independent garage I know with good reputation up your way is Statllers (in Sheffield). I would avoid VW dealers as you'll be looking at stupid money.

X2. Great advice :happy2:

Exact pricing & part numbers can easily be found with the search function

Why assume this isn't covered by your warranty? The car is stock and a non-wearing part has failed. I'd pursue that route before paying someone to change it

My '05 GTI has just been having the same problem and I've assumed it's the DV. These early ones are prone to splitting. My local independent has ordered me up a revision G DV, Part no: 06F 145 710 G  for about £37. Don't know how much labour they will charge to fit it yet, but I think it's only a fairly quick job. As said above, don't go to the dealers because they can charge about £150 for the job!

I had my DV, PCV and cam follower all changed in the same afternoon at Statlers, i would only ever go there now for installations, servicing, etc.....(note that the DV is not as easy to change on the KO3 engine than the KO4, bit fidgety)

Thanks for the replies, Ended up taking it to a local garage approved by my warrenty, seems its either the DV (£30ish) or another something relating to this at (£25) they rang up warrenty people and sounds like it should be covered, will know all tomorrow :)

Glad it's covered by the warranty - that's what warranty is there for

Seems warrenty company will pay all except a 'Diagnostic Fees' which is £58 .... does that sound right?!

which is roughly what an Indie might charge for fitting to a KO3, so essentially they are just paying for the item itself...

They are probably able to do that. Warranties are always full of small print get out clauses. I guess you're lucky they are paying for any it.

So all fixed , cost me £58 in diagnostic fee, all rest (part  + labour) paid by warranty,
Here's the thing tho, I think when bought the car there must have been small hole/tear in the DV and then got bigger till I noticed all the turbo gone. So now it feels faster than ever!!! And its awesome!!! Feels like its been off to be remapped!!!
