Have you been snooping on my Mac?

Seriously though, I don't think it being seen as this forbidden substance, some taboo that you can't touch until you are 18 helps.

Ive been allowed to have a "small" glass of wine with family dinners since the age of about 10-11. I hardly ever touch the stuff now. A glass of cider every now and then. I did go through an 16-24 phase, where i drank a fair bit socially. And in spite of being very ill a few times, vowing never to drink again, eventually i decided that getting plastered just wasnt for me at all.

It's probably going to sound snobbish to say this but most of the Kavos 'revellers' as portrayed in the TV prog greatly lack education of any sort and have not been restricted from drinking in the UK. Those same people are the ones who clog up A&E every Saturday night, and not just Saturdays either. Part of the problem is that the parents are very uneducated too.

I grew up with Retsina and Ouzo (probably why I much preferred neat spirits when I used to drink alcohol) from the age of 10. Apart from education there is the major factor of culture (meaning society, not sophistication).

My daughter got absolutely plastered just before she went away to uni and had to be ambulanced 15 miles away. She had passed out and if it wasn't for a local medic she may have died. She learnt her lesson and although she drinks she's very careful. I'm glad it happened where I could reach her and alert the emergency services because no-one was doing anything except her best mate who phoned me. Feckin pubs and bars have a lot to answer for, but hey-ho it's a nice profit. A second dead child would probably be more than even I could bear.

Interestingly, you don't get the same behaviour with people on Ecstacy.

In Amnesia, Space and Pacha in the late eighties and nineties, people danced all night, replaced fighting in the street with hugging and kissing, didn't piss themselves in the street, rarely vomitted over themselves, didn't force broken glass into each other's faces, caused little problems for the locals and A&E department, and certainly didn't drink theirs or anyone elses pee!

Yet alcohol is the legal drug!!! It amazes me that we in Britain have socialised this level of alcohol abuse into being acceptable amongst the young. You just don't see Dutch, Spanish and German youngsters behaving to such extremes in such numbers. Their drinking culture is vastly different, and looks a lot more enjoyable! When used like this, alcohol is a disgusting drug, and I'm glad I don't touch it these days.

1990 was my first Ibiza trip aged 17, Es Paradis, Pascha, Space....fond memories, been 3 times and never once saw a fight in a club, but did see a few in San Antonio Bay the 3rd time I went (which was full of piss heads)  :signLOL:

One of the women i work with had the joy last week of waking up in front of the tv to find her step son on this programme downing a cup of urine!  It has provided some good entertainment at work though!
