They all do it, something to do with the injectors IIRC, you'll see loads of threads on here with people wanting to know why their car sounds like a diesel.

If it's a knocking you may be looking at something totally different.

If it's just a constant light ticking, don't worry about it - they all seem to do it. Get on with enjoying a great car.

Low oil presure , could be oil pump blocked or on its way out (happened to mine and needed new engine)  :sad1:

As said, if its a constant low ticking/clicking noise. It will be your injectors.

..........a slight ticking noise is normal, but if it's very loud it could be the small cam chain & tensioner  :scared:.What engine code mate? does it start AXX?.

Could be the cambelt? I had this, saw all the threads about it being normal, then eventually got the belt and water pump changed and the ticking stopped!!

..........there is a small cam chain as well(other side of engine to rubber cam belt). My last GTI was very loud on tick over when warm AXX engine code & it had to have the cam chain & tensioner replaced.

What Gene said. I had the cam chain and tensioner changed on mine as it was 'knocking' on tickover when warm.

Have you checked your cam follower? Mine was worn and meant the cam shaft needed changing which alex did at aks. Ever since then the diesel sound I used to get once engine was warm has gone and sounds fine. a 2005 gti axx engine on 67k
