Number plate led lighting
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:27:38 am »
Can anyone tell me how I go about fitting led number plate lights to my ed30? Is it just a case of fitting bulbs or do I need some sort of kit?

You just need canbus LED's so you don't get a 'bulb out' warning on the display.

Mine arrived from www.hids-direct.co.uk this morning. I don't think Halfords do them.

What year Justin?

Highly unlikely if my experiences are anything to go by   :fighting:

Unlikely they'll actually have tried on an Audi of year 'MYxx' as I've found with most LED light sellers, to be fair Neil. The lights will almost definitely fit and almost definitely work, but you'll get a canbus error without any doubt. I'm going to meetup with my mate (adamsin on here) who owns my old flame of a MK5 GTI which I fitted these very Xtec bulbs too, in fact, to try them in the Audi once and for all.

I've been through more sets of LED plate bulbs for the Audi than have been manufactured, it feels like.
Basically the 2009+ Audi canbuses (particularly the A3) is fussy as f**k. It even spits a dash error for OEM Audi A5 LED bulb units (£25 a pop), WITH a VCDS setting enabled to allow OEM LED bulb units.

Bullshizer, eh?  :sad1:
