Uneven Tyre Wear on Lowered Cars?
« on: July 07, 2009, 01:50:37 pm »
For all you lowered lot out there....
I've just had 4 new tyres put on my Ed30 - it's been lowered 25mm all around using just springs (I had the laser tracking done as soon as it was lowered.)
The old front tyres are obviously worn more than the back, however they seem to be equally worn across the width (which is ok).
The backs have worn mostly on the inside - I'm thinking this may be because of the way the car sits - see pic.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this and if its 'normal' for lowered cars to sit with the wheels like this (more in from the top)?

Cheers Dan - yours looks like it sits the same as mine - have you got spacers fitted?

If they get set up by someone who knows what they are doing then you should not get uneven wear on your tyres unless you add some camber to the set up.

its not the lowerd-ness that does the wearing, its the camber as TC said. my susspension is fully set up (by awesome gti  :embarrassed:) and has been laser aligned, but still get uneven were.

But you have not got any camber on yours Joe. Red robin has got camber on his rears set up by VWR and he has reported no uneven tyre wear thus far.

Surely any car with negative camber (front or rear) would wear the inners of the tyres more, as thats the part of the tyre which is bearing the most load and has the most contact with the road surface?
