Racelogic performance box v's IPad Dynolicious
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:16:47 pm »
Well today I have done several test runs to compare how a £300+ GPS based Racelogic performance box compares to the £2.99 Dynolicious app being used on an iPad 2 using the GMeter.

All I can say is I'm flabbergasted by how accurate the app is. I recently had my car weighed and so know the weight of me+ the car to a kilo and so whp figures are also as close as they can be calculated by both systems.

I did a few test runs with the app running to find out how it works and if there are any weird features to it. As long as you set off the line clearly the car will give good figures. Move a little before testing or set off before it says go and the figures get confused. Once I'd got the hang of it the app is easy to use and the results are very accurate.

My runs ( surface is wet, cold and muddy ) came out as 3.8 seconds to sixty for BOTH systems, 4.3 to sixty for Both systems, 1/4 mile in 12.89 for the app and 12.9 for the Racelogic box. Intermediate times for 0-10,0-20,0-30 etc were all less than a tenth of a second apart. The dyno function appears to be relatively accurate too giving between 310 and 330whp across the results and almost exactly the same results from the Performance Box.

All in all I can highly recommend this app as a means of recording your times as long as you use it correctly. :happy2:

Thats good to know... I've had that app for a while. It guestimated my car at 280bhp a year or so ago, but that was with very rough weight figures.

Thanks for the heads up with regards its accuracy.  :happy2:

Good to see John my 0-100 in my ed30 is accurate. Not too shabby at 10.1 at stage 2 with its " inferior" remap by Bluefin Superchips.

From 60-100 is 4 seconds dead, 6.1 to 10.1 is not bad going.

Just gota buy some new rubber to get my 0-60 down to 5.5 as I think I can gain .5 .

Thankyou again for checking this out for me, and this App is well worth the spends.  :happy2:

I based the weight on my setup as 1450kg or 3190 lbs, but not 100% sure that's correct for a 5 door ed30 Dsg.

Steve, you are lighter than you should be with those weights. On set-up it says that the weight should be the car plus you and not just you! :signLOL:

Seriously though, I'd guess that you and the car weigh well over 1500kg due to all those Bourbons.

My weight is 1610kg with 1/2 a tank of fuel and me in it. :ashamed:

I'd say you need to know the exact weight, rather than guess it for these to work any where near accurately.

I'm impressed that once you do know though, they work so well  :happy2:
Sideways yo!

Calculated BHP was 251   so somethings not quite right there, probably my entered weight of 1550KG is too low or maybe that is 251 at the wheels.

When you set it up rich, it asks you to enter your estimated horsepower or enter 0, and says something about wheel horsepower will then be estimated. So 251 is bang on for your 300bhp car  :happy2:

Did you use launch control, in S or manual?

That was setting off without launch control and in M mode using the paddles shifting at about 6500RPM.

Thats what 4wd buys you... just look at the 0-10 and 0-20 times.

50-60 times... yours is 0.98 of a sec min is 1.04
