Slipping Clutch
« on: January 12, 2013, 09:00:18 pm »
Hi Folks, my clutch has started to slip in the customary 5th and 6th gears, any suggestions if/when I replace plse? Ive a 2005 GTi, 50k miles, and original clutch still; I have all the usual engine mods, and R Tech Stage 2 map!
Ive been reading up on dxd clutch, sounds good, but hearing mixed things bout Sachs! Just hoping I dont need to replace DMF also, but maybe sum of these kits already come with it!? Budget wise, if I have to, I guess a grand or so, including fitting and warranty! (Thanks Hurdy btw for your initial help on this)
Cheers Folks
Andrew

I've answered a couple of clutch threads recently. It's pretty much inevitable that your clutch will slip on a mapped car, if not straight away, it will eventually  :sad1:

Check out a Helix clutch - awesome GTI seem to do these at a good price. Not heard anything bad about these. .

If I still had my GTI, that would be my choice  :happy2:

Southbend is another option, although you probably have to buy from the USA as no one seems to sell them over here.

Cheers will check up on these! Will these performance clutches require act differently to my stock clutch do u know, ie. shorter, longer on pedal, or tighter, etc? The last thing I want is to have one leg bigger than the other, lol!!

Tbf I think the DMF is in this price!? Is there much difference in the actual clutch feel?

You have an R Tech map on your car, have you not asked the the boys there how much and the different options that are available to you regarding updating your clutch. Says on their website £990 fully fitted for Sashs or Helix performance clutch. Worth a call.

My choice, Helix.  :happy2:

Saw that yes, although the dates are a bit out, so prices may b different! But yes, mite give them a call alright, and also Statlers as much more local to me! Is leaving a slipping clutch not adviseable then? :-o

No as it will begin to leave heat spots on the face of the DMF
