Anyone know if the Helix is quiet?

Your getting confused here. The talk of noise is referring to single mass flywheels. If your leaving your OEM flywheel in and replacing only your clutch you don't need to worry about any more noise.

To answer your earlier questions, you will get a slightly stiffer pedal and the way it bites may be a little harsher, but this is to be expected since an uprated clutch is designed to handle the extra torque

Awesome GTI will supply and fit the Helix for around £700-800.

Ignore the prices on R-Techs site, they don't actually fit clutches - they get someone on the estate to do it and I don't think they have updated the prices for a while

This is so confusing! On the one hand you r saying there will be vibration, yet ive been advised by a reputable Independent on here that no extra vibration would occur!
Then there's the issue of SMF or DMF, and on the premise that my current DMF is ok, cant I just stick with that?
Part of me thinks that I should perhaps just get a new stock clutch, but can that handle 275 bhp and 330 lbs of torque?? Id say 80% of my driving is to and from work, 2 miles each way, and then bout hundred miles on motorway each wk, so I want a clutch that does not require me to have Herculean strength in my right leg, lol!?

With those figures I'd recommend an updated clutch as usually with anything Stage 1 and above the OEM clutch will be struggling. Some peeps manage on a standard for years while running stage 1 but for others it cam be months.

IMHO, Yes you'll get some extra noise from an updated clutch with a different (harder than OEM) pedal feel but its not a biggy. It doesn't bother me but you won't know until you experience it. You need to get yourself in a Mk5 with an unrated clutch so get yourself to a meet or to a Dyno Day or even post a thread asking if anyone near you can take you out in their car.

Very wise words, thank you! Watever clutch get, i'll b shopping around, but as I live in Doncaster, Statlers in Sheffield is usually my port of call these days!! Maybe he'll have 1 with an updated clutch, only way of telling if I would be happy with it I guess!?

Judder is probably the orrible dual mass flywheel.
Set your handbrake, place in third gear allow the clutch out slowly, do the revs rise or does the car pull against the brake... If the latter clutch should be ok.

Reference this thread specifically, I tried the old get up to 6th gear, 2k revs, floor the right foot, and sure enough, clutch slipped!
Also tried the setting off in 3rd gear and it managed it, albeit juddery!! :'(

well biting the bullet, getting a Helix Stage 1 clutch fitted tomorrow week, sticking with stock flywheel, hope i'm not disappointed!?

I haven't changed my clutch / DMF out yet (106k miles)... but isn't it worthwhile to get the Flywheel done at the same time?  I know this depends on your mileage but I'd consider a flywheel change whilst their in there...

the phrase used was 'overkill' when i  mentioned getting a SMF! To be honest, only done 50k miles since new back in 2005, so hoping the flywheel on it will suffice!! But yes, i did ask the question, not to mention that fact it would be about £500 more, and the alleged 'chattering' that would occur!!

My octavia is on 60k and stage 1 sha-rk map, even before the map it was slipping i think the previous owner rode the clutch and couldnt give a toss about the car.

Sounds expensive if you then have to get fitted, but best of luck mate, we can compare notes on updated clutches next week lol!?
