ECO- tyre BS!!
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:53:12 pm »
Just taken delivery of some tyres....

Goodyear F1 v2 and a Continental ECOContact 3. I presume that the ECO means that they should be more economical?

So it's pretty much worse for everything? That's bizarre.

I must admit, I really don't like this new rating system.

All I thought ECO tyres did was give less rolling resistance and in turn improves MPG.

TBH, I think the new tyre rating system wasn't well thought out

Good point, that's a possibility.
Basically there's 3 ratings: Gas mileage / Noise Levels / Wet weather performance.

The Eco tire worse at everything, lol.

Although another consideration here, is that the tire dimensions aren't that same.

That makes no sense, you'd think the stickier tyre would be less fuel efficient and with it having greater resistance be noisier. Wet weather performance isnt a surprise though.

I have ECO rubber on my other little car and I would rate them as the WORST ever tyres I've driven on! I'm just waiting for some spare funds so that I can replace the current 15*5.5 with something around the 16*7 so that I can get some decent rubber fitted.
