I think it's an abomination, but then I hate 5dr hatch backs.

:signLOL: you just wait until you have kids and a massive family you will love 5 doors  I hated 5 doors at one point but things and life changed that thought

Wife and I don't want kids. Long discussed, it's not for us. So I'll be sticking to my 3dr hatchbacks and Coupes!!

Bad Points

Interior is 8/9 years old and has seen better days. Satnav isn't touch screen and after using an RNS is a pain to get used to. But it's these little things that are trade offs between Audi and VW, like leather seats (Audi) or Artificial leather seats (VW).
Could be mistaken for a standard S Line with bigger wheels.
Still relatively expensive
Spec is poverty in standard guise

Good Points

It's biblically fast and has lots of grip, sport button on the dash beefs up the exhaust note.
Could be mistaken for a standard S Line with bigger wheels - de-badged it's a complete sleeper.
Practical if you have a family

I drove one and loved it.

Yeah but that 600bhp will plough ahead in a straight line in the corners... How the hell audi make 4wd cars understeer will puzzle me forever and a day.

Haldex controller will sort that, surely?

Driven an RS3 a few times and currently running my second TTRS, which is an S-Tronic plus version.

The engine is a complete masterpiece and mated to the 7 speed auto it is fantastic. Stage 1 map on an S-Tronic has been proven a number of times to do 0-60 in 3.1 and 0-100 in 7.1. Your not gonna get many cars that go that fast without spending 100k plus. The under steer issue which everyone bangs on about is complete tosh. Stick a set of super sports and your rocking, you'd have to be driving like an absolute nob to get under steer. I've done numerous track days in my old one and it was fantastic on track.

I think the RS3/TTRS are a performance car bargain at the min, yeah the body is old and the interiors are slightly dated, but once you have experienced one of these mapped you forget about all of that.

I think they are a good car but is the 5 pot worth the premium over a good Golf R or can you not spec a brand new M135i for 35k with a few options and be better off?

I think they would have to drop in price quite a bit before would consider one over an R or a M135i

Doesn't the RS3 / TT-RS map to ~420bhp on stage 1... a Golf R stage 1 (~300bhp) - if the figures are correct the 5 pot is going to destroy the R.

I had a S3 Stronic stage 2+ before my first RS, which is essentially a golf R in a different frock. Performance wise the S3 isn't even in the same league as a mapped RS. Made the S3 look silly. You can pick a TTRS with a decent spec for £27k now which is a bargain in my eyes.

Read some independent reviews and watch some of the videos done by the likes of Chris Harris or EVO magazine. They seem to polarise opinion that's for sure.

For every person who tells you it's the best car in the world, there's another will tell you that beautiful engine is mated to a chassis that's as spectacularly wank as they come. I have no opinion either way, having not owned one.

You ultimately need to decide for yourself, as it's a lot of money.

And remember that asking whether a VAG car is good car, on a VAG forum will only garner one typical response.

I think my next model will most likely be the same as the new model we pick up this week. I honestly wish i could have stretched to a new M135i this time.

the m135i looks more fun to drive then the RS3 if Chris Harris and Evo are to be believed.

I cant see how paying 35k for an RS3 makes sense -either buy a cheaper Golf R or get a newer M135i.

I would test drive all 3 of the above and make your decision based on how you liked them/cost

or curveball... wait for a A45 AMG and see  if you like them and get one on a PCP?
