To add balance, an M135i is a brand new car compared to an old RS3... Even so, the old 1M was considered a better car, and they're holding their value amazingly well too.

New baby AMG looks amusing. Golf Rs seem to be bargains all of a sudden, not sure how that price trend will pan out.

I haven't driven one or even seen a RS3 in the flesh but I would love to.

Price apart, I think that most folks would buy this car for the engine and performance but the 5-doors and S-tronic in a typical Audi quality package is a big bonus.

The early journo reviews said that was to remove the inherent understeer that the chassis had.

The m135i sound is artificially produced.

Anyway you can get a 997 turbo for 35k now

A sad trait of things to come, thanks to the EU. VAG are adding it to loads of stuff, Ford, Jag....

At least it isn't a horrible noise, you just know it's not quite honest.

how do you mean artificially produced? the car produces a noise through the speakers of induction roar or something which is generated by a computer and not the engine?

The m135i sound is artificially produced.

....Artificially produced on the sound you hear outside the car as well as inside?

To my mind that's no better than a girl wearing false tits. Or, to make my comment more equal: No better than a bloke with a banana stuck down his trousers!

I suppose I'd rather drive a car with a good but artificial sound than no sound at all. But I was brought up on the sounds of motor racing and loud V8's etc - Even a Railton straight-8.

The M135i's exhaust is plenty noisy enough from the outside, but because the cabin is so well sound insulated, you don't hear much. There's something called a sound symposer, this plays the sound of a fruity straight 6 which changes note all through the rev range though the rear speakers.

It is of course fake, but it still sounds nice.

I believe the new GTI has it, along with a load of other cars to come. sh*tty EU ruling on cabin db and this seems to be the only way around it.

M135i sound is amplified and played through rear speakers.

Driven an RS3 a few times and currently running my second TTRS, which is an S-Tronic plus version.

The engine is a complete masterpiece and mated to the 7 speed auto it is fantastic. Stage 1 map on an S-Tronic has been proven a number of times to do 0-60 in 3.1 and 0-100 in 7.1. Your not gonna get many cars that go that fast without spending 100k plus. The under steer issue which everyone bangs on about is complete tosh. Stick a set of super sports and your rocking, you'd have to be driving like an absolute nob to get under steer. I've done numerous track days in my old one and it was fantastic on track.

I think the RS3/TTRS are a performance car bargain at the min, yeah the body is old and the interiors are slightly dated, but once you have experienced one of these mapped you forget about all of that.

Seriously...they can really do 0-100 in 7ish sec from a stg1 map

....So does an engine sound on a quality computer motorsport sim game sound good, but not as good as the real thing.

WTF is this EU ruling on cabin dB? Surely they don't want drivers to feel caccoon'd and isolated and therefore more prone to falling asleep or not hearing what's going on with other road users around them?

The lack of cabin noise is something I really disliked about the OEM Mk6 GTI - When I first switched the engine on I couldn't tell if the engine was actually running.

All this is beginning to make me think that I'm gald that I'm growing old and won't have to live through what drivers (those who love driving) will have to put with in the future.
