Just like most heterosexual blokes don't like false breasts on women. Fake Rolex?

Most heterosexual blokes don't care they still taste the same.

....I think you know that I wasn't talking about breast feeding, Ian.

Lets face it, the sound a car exhaust makes is X% real and Y% created by the resonator, baffles, etc. - which is why the sound your car makes with a Milltek is different from a car with a BCS, which is different again from an APR exhaust. . . .

So the sound you are listening to is also a "manufactured" sound, to some degree

....To some degree yes. But to continue my ladies breasts analogy, it depends what kind of bra excites you

It's the resonance which occurs PHYSICALLY via an exhaust pipe which touches the heart and soul of a driving enthusiast. Sound is a vibration and is even spiritual.

I agree, but also the resonance & the feel is "manufactured". A straight 4-pot engine doesnt create a fantastic noise on its own, it needs a little help from an exhaust to give you that feeling. . .  :happy2:

....Agreed, it's the type of help which I have an opinion about. Physically formed sound versus artificially formed sound imitating the physically formed.

Btw, we are waaaay off topic  :ashamed:

Is the RS3 sound via an artificial thingybox?

To be honest, I meant with VW. You seem to think VW still make cars aimed solely at enthusiasts, perveyors of performance cars. It's simply not the case.

And by the way, I hope you're not insinuating that I am "Mr Average".

Cars with the engine sound played via speakers into the cabin is for the following two types of human.

1. Bed wetter's.

2. People who sit down to wee.

End of discussion.................................

The last Golf GTI that VW made for enthusiasts is the Mk1. All the rest have been "lets see how may units we can shift".  :popcornsoda:

The way people talk round here you'd think we all drove American V8 muscle cars, not weedy 4-cylinder hatchbacks with airbags and traction control you can't actually turn off.

....I made particular emphasis in my earlier post that I was believing that the GTI and R versions are not mass market rather than all VW's.

I can't comment about whether you are a Mr Average or not, Andrew - We have yet to meet. And anyway, I wouldn't be too bothered about what other people might or might not think of you anyway - It's their problem rather than yours and that includes me.  :happy2:

.....Unfortunately true but VW are very happy to try and exploit that original GTI tradition to shift sales.

I guess that's why some of us feel the need to modify our GTI's etc.

....Such glorious machines aren't the exclusive subject that petrol heads enthuse over.
