Supercar Running costs etc

So the initial purchase price might be high say £50k for a secondhand Ferrari , Aston , Lamborghini but what would be actual running costs and issues and problems that one might encounter after purchase ?

We all know about the fuel costs of running one say 10-15mpg . Is there such a thing as an economical supercar ?

Saw an article in the Times in last week (I think) quoted 46.3mpg for a Ferrari 458 ! A mistake i'm sure 

Anyone got one on here to pass on their first hand experience ?

Yeah but those are endless which are 5 times more expensive than normal fast road pads.

Presumably servicing every year rather than on mileage too ??

Whether you class it as a supercar is open to debate, but I ran a couple of Lotus Esprits back when I was young a single, for most of the time as my only vehicle.  I did about 50k miles in my V8-GT over 5 years.

A lot of people had told me that it would be financial suicide to do such a thing.  To prove them wrong (?! or not!) I captured every cost I incurred on my blog on pistonheads.  Take a look here if you're interested:  http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?carId=161

Although on the face of it, it's a lot of money, I don't regret any of it and i doubt that it is any more (in fact probably less) than I would have spent had i gone for another marque that has less of a reputation for unreliability!  Ie it's not just a lotus thing..

The old adage is true: "if you couldn't afford it new, you won't be able to afford it used" :)

Believe me, your mpg is the last thing you need to worry about..

Noble M12.

cheap to buy and maintain, mostly Ford parts for service. Tyres and brakes are not cheap but by no means expensive in comparison to some other cars.

On a serious note, you cant really call a Noble a Super car, yes it has great performance but so does A Eddie. Really, out of all the newer cars the R8 will have the cheapest but it will still set you back. Any that you buy out of warranty will be a big risk and fixing them will be eye watering. Plus you don't even drive your Eddie much, it will feel painful when annual service costs come in and you have not used it.
You really need to have a whack of money to run and enjoy a Super car.

911 turbo and r8 dont cost the earth to run. Gallardos not all that bad either if u use a indie.
