Normal running Temp for TSI

What would you expect to find as the normal running temp? 90 deg on the gauge?
Mine rarely gets above 2 divisions back from that. Too low?
Also, how long to get up to temp? Mine seems to take about 5 - 6 miles of normal running. Is this normal?
Or does it all sound like a faulty thermostat?
Is this difficult to change?

Once up to temp it should stay bang on 90 all the time. It's usual to take quite a while to get up to that temp, especially in cold weather. I couldn't comment on whether yours might be faulty though.

Thanks - 90 is what I thought.
It's going into VW for some other stuff to be sorted, they can sort that as well! (Warranty issues.........  !)

MIne stays on the 90, unless i go down a long steep hill near ours when it drops below, using thedigital display fnction it normally is running 70-76degrees unless stuck in traffic.

Mine stays on 90 once it gets there, which often takes between 5-10 minutes depending on outside temperature.

Although possibly unrelated, my mates' 2003 A3 hardly ever reached 90 on the dash, which was diagnosed as a faulty coolant temp. sensor. Apparently common on those 1.8 turbo's

You have one on the S3 as well.  Couldn't understand why they didn't give this to the MK5 GTi, my MK1 GTi even had this?? 
I had to fit the Kufatec Bluetooth to m old MK5 GTi to get the oil temp function!!

I have mk5 1.4 Tsi. Take forever to warm up but doesn't budge from 90 after 10-15 mins.

If i was into conspiracies I'd say that there was something stopping it from even the smallest of fluctuations.....

Thanks. 90 dead seems to be the figure. Confirmed by another vw workshop today.
Either the thermostat is faulty - opening too soon or stuck which would account for the slow warm up as well as the low running temp. Or the sender is inaccurate, possible. Or the gauge, very unlikely.
I'll find out tomorow and post the result.

Well now .... I went to the garage and whilst the mechanic was listening to the noise from the N/S drive shaft, he agreed that the temp was incorrect. It was either the thermostat or the sender. More likely the sender.
When i pointed out the slow warm up and low heater output he changed to more likely the thermostat...........
When it goes in to have the N/S drive shaft noise sorted AGAIN ( they changed the O/S DS bearing last week despite the noise coming from the N/S!) they will sort the temp out..... I hope.

I'll let you know.

Thank goodness for a years warrenty! Otherwise I would have had to have covered a duff battery, seized rear wiper motor and rattling boot lid so far.........

I have a years warranty too, almost coming to an end.

I had the high pressure switch replaced early on and a new turbo fitted. It's been running fine since the turbo was fitted but i'm thinking on continuing with the warranty when this one runs out.

I recon that would be money well spent.
When I told the After Sales Manager I thought I'd bought a VW not a Lotus he looked puzzled. "You know - Loads of trouble usually serious" Then he looked less than  amused...
