Incidentally Hedge and Robin.  Did you ride for local clubs in your day ? and if you don't mind me asking which clubs.

....Yes, I rode for Festival RC (and also redesigned their 'strip' - Race Jerseys etc). I was a Time Triallist.

Apparently Hedge and my clubs raced each other in some events.

Festival Road Club is based in Kingston (on Thames, not Jamaica!) and so training was riding a chain gang mostly anywhere down as far as Brighton (and back!).

I may have some photos of myself somewhere  

I am convinced that miles and miles of fast road cycling helped develop whatever road sense and awareness I bring to driving.

I rode the Tour of Surrey in '97 (I think), a good few Festival lads riding that year IIRC.  Good event.

As for Lance, compelling viewing IMO.  Looking forward to part 2

With all the current revelations, I'm begining to doubt if Lance Armstrong ever actually set foot on the moon

Thanks Robin, I'll keep my eyes peeled for the full version.  You don't get much clearer answers than that.

As an athelete I have the utmost respect for him even with his banned substance use. As a person my respect for him has all but disappeared.

I did find it amusing the story of taking the bronze TT trophy off him from 2000.  Just look at the gold medal, Viatcheslav Ekimov one of Lance's right hand men in his USPS team at that time.  Clean ?  I doubt it.

Silver medal, Jan Ulrich, clean ?  definitely not he's admitted doping as well.

No mention of this on the news though, it was all about Lance.

Back to the old argument of it being an even playing field.  The cleanest rider during the tour could well be over an hour down on the GC when all the top riders were on the gear.  If everyone was clean would it make an hours worth of difference over a three week tour ?  Unlikely ?

Would it make a difference of an hour over a 3 week tour? Of course it would.

I have mades who use steroids for bodybuilding an the difference that stuff makes is just mind blowing. When they are on gear, I cannot keep up with them in the gym at all. They can train alot harder,longer, faster, with less rest time  inbetween. Their endurance levels whilst on it is crazy. They do turn a but emotional at times.
