Cheap vcds cable - where to buy, what to search eBay?

I'm looking to buy a VCDS cable but not keen on spending lots so happy to try a 3rd party cable. Yet when I search eBay for "vcds cable" all I seem to find are cables for mk4 golfs suitable up to 2004.

What should I be searching for? Anyone bought a 3rd party cable that works/care to recommend a seller? Any advice appreciated

Good. Buy a genuine cable or ask someone on here that has one to help.

I've come from a BMW Z4 (children came, two seater had to go) where the BMW workshop software is widely leaked/available online (DIS Diagnostic and Information System). I'd hoped it was the same with VW's' but now realised there is no freely available equivalent.

The penny has just dropped the the cable is effectively the software license!  So $250 gets a cable and the licence.

On the upside in a VW people let me pull out at junctions, unlike in the BMW
