Chipping
« on: January 27, 2013, 07:58:15 pm »
Hey all,

Got in my best friends car yesterday to notice it being considerably quicker - he stated it had been remapped but it turns out its just a plug in jobby so a chip I suppose? - 80 odd quid he paid and the results and brilliant, its got me wondering about this, can anyone shed some more light on the pro's & con's of these so on and so forth?

how much are they for  a mk5 and is anyone able to reccomend one.... or equally should I steer clear!

Cheers :)

Sounds disastrous, esp. on TFSI - has he done a VCDS dyno run to test this "plug in jobby"?

Tuning box then, or variable resistor. Insight into them here:

Also fool the trip computer into showing higher MPG figures as the ECU can't see the extra fuel that is being injected.

Here's some recent testing of a relatively expensive tuning box (was £50 more than a fully dyno tuned remap):

Diesels are less fussy about AFR than petrols and are therefore easy to get good gains. Increase boost, dump a load of fuel in. It will smoke like hell but you will a get safe, decent power & torque increase.

That's why diesel tuning boxes took off. As you just add a certain percentage to the ECU's figures and get a decent increase  :happy2:

No substitute for a properly tuned remap though IMHO  :happy2:
