Confessions of a fiddler
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:41:17 pm »
I thought I'd replace my 5 year old DV from a C to a G and followed some excellent instructions from a post on here. However, the penultimate T30 bolt sheared and although I managed to remove it I'm now a little worried. Does anyone know if VW or TPS stock replacement bolts - it's an M6 x 20mm but I definitely don't want to replace it with a similar bolt from the local hardware shop. Any help/advice/experience would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

yes they sell bolts separately. they should only be pennies. any good parts guy will be able to find them for you

I really wouldn't bother going anywhere other than the main dealer for something like this. Probably cheaper and you know the part is the exact type / quality intended for the job.

If my copy of ETKA is to be believed the part number for the bolt is: N  014 740 11, approx 13 pence each.

I was just unscrewing it and the dome end if the bolt snapped. Luckily I could plier the rest out. A complete freak incident I guess. A little worried though as the dome end of the bolt disappeared into the bottom of the engine bay....I had a good look round but my hope is that it has dropped straight through. New DV in place and tested so peace of mind is restored, and the revision 'C' wasn't in bad condition!

Funny how you say dome end. The proper bolt hasn't got a domed head?

There are only 3 bolts.

Those ones look very nothing like mine. Best get 3 real ones from a dealer.

Sorry, I meant 4 including the one that attaches the DV to the engine block - same as in this how to guide:

I'll put a call in to my local dealer tomorrow.
