Wheel Fitment Guide
« on: July 09, 2009, 12:22:26 pm »
As there seem to be loads of posts about that will and wont fit on the GTI i though it could be a good idea to have some sort of wheel fitments guide.  This is where you guys come in!!  What i need is the size, width and offset  of the wheels your running, tyre size and ammount lowered (if at all)  Any issues with rubbing would also be usefull.  What i can then do is work out the minimum and maxumun clearance for each diameter / width to give an easy guide IE

18x8       Offset range 40 to 50 - Tyresize 225/40/18.  Upto 40mm lower no rubbing
18x8.5    Offset range 45 to 50 - Tyresize 225 or 235/40/18 Upto 30mm lowering no rubiing with arch bolts removed.

What do you think?

18x8 ET 42 225/40/18 - couldn't tell you how far it's lowered, but there's approx 15mm between tyre and arch.

Screw mod done, have pulled the arches on both sides and had to fold them back. Big holes in arch liners from rubbing under compression all the way up Foxhole at XXXmph.

Rears are fine though.
Sideways yo!

18 x 8.5 225/40/18 (not sure on the et) slammed 65mm, lots of rubbing before arch's were rolled.

will this be compiled into a chart or something?

You mean something like this (taken from GolfMKV.com):

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa1/RabidRabbit33/untitled-1.jpg

If the offset isnt listed (generally ET32 or less) then its not recomended with stock arch's.

And roughly speaking (dont ask why they use inch's!):
1" = 25mm
1.5" = 40mm
2" = 50mm
