Volkswagen must be joking if that really is the Mk7 R and not a disguise! I thought it was a Mk7 Polo until I saw the tiny "r" pics heading in the post. The Mk6 R is definitely the best looking.

I can't say that the Mk7 GTI excites me any more than the Mk6 GTI did. But when I the Mk5 GTI came out I was instantly in love and took the brochure to bed every night until she was delivered 12 weeks later. My Mk5 GTI still excites me to this day even if beginning to look slightly dated.

The Mk7 R won't look like that. Unless it's a real sleeper look they're going for.

I went and had a gander around the basic demo model at my local stealers today and these pics confirm my opinion that it looks dull. It's like looking at someone dressed all in beige, there's just no excitement. I know its not a Ferrari but I'd like to look at the lines and think "Oh Yeah" not "Oh god".

Love the Mk5, love the Mk6 and this is NOT a progression IMO.

(I will probably end up buying one in 2-3 years after saying all this  )

The Mk7 R so far simply doesn't look the part!

No matter how rational we think that the process of buying a car is, there are two huge not-to-be-underestimated influences: Looks and sound. At least that is the case if you are a true enthusiast or petrol head.

I wonder whether the bit in the bottom grille is the radar thing for cruise control? Hate the way it breaks up the grille.

Agree the GTI doesn't look that special and the Golf R looks worse than the std golf!!!


EDIT: I've had another look through and it still just doesn't excite me. I was hoping to go for a mk7 gti, maybe ed40, but I think the styling is too bland and makes me want to look elsewhere for my next car.

The R must be wrong, both Gti & GTD have LED tail lights but not the R??????
Possibly blue motion with 4 pipes

Anyone like the red strip running along the bottom of the headlights? I think it only works for the red gti.

The front is wayy to mk6, not biggest fan of the rear. looks like a immitation of audi with a5 rear lights??
