Can wiper arms work loose?
« on: February 10, 2013, 03:23:56 pm »
Just wondered if my wiper arms might need tightening or something. For a while now I can't get a good wipe. There are lines and little patches that don't clear totally. It is not the wipers because I have tried several new pairs over the last year or so. Mostly the Bosch aerotwin, but I have tried other brands and they all seem to leave the same areas. It is not the screen itself either because this has been well cleaned with different products as well. Was just thinking it could be the wiper arms themselves. Is this a common problem and if so, how would I adjust/tighten them? Thanks for any advice.

Its not unknown for wiper arms to work loose. They are held onto the splined drive spindles by a smallish nut. Easy enough to lift the plastic cover and check with a spanner.
Would not have thought that would have caused the blades to  miss sections of the screen though. That is normally down to the blades themselves worn/torn/mishappen etc.
I replaced my OEM blades with some Bosch a few weeks ago  - normally a good blade - but noticed a juddering and lack of cleaning power in the lower half recently.
I think I will bite the bullet and replace them again with VW OEM.
Only ever had OEM on the wifes Golfs and no problems.
I suspect there are others out there with different stories though! ......

Thanks for that  :happy2: I check that when I get a chance. Funny though, because I've never used OEM blades other than the ones that first came with car and never had any problems till now. Maybe next time I change them I'll try some from the dealer and see what they are like.

Interestingly I noticed this on mine today - even with pretty new blades. Looks like a set of oem could be in order
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding
