Thinking of getting an R32
« on: January 24, 2013, 11:42:32 pm »
I currently have a MK5 GTI, but I've always loved the sound of the R32 engine and I'm now able to afford to swap to one. The question is, what are my options in terms of getting more power from the engine? I looked at remaps and they seem to give 5 to 10 bhp at best which wouldn't be noticeable at all, is there any option to add a turbo to one to gain more power, and if so, what gains are there to be had?

 Fixed that for you! :booty:

Seriously though, if you want more power you simply have to go with forced induction. N/A tuning is not the way to go with this engine.

Golf R gone.

echoing the comments of others... the v6 doesnt need a turbo, quick out of the box :)

altho, a turbo WOULD help :) - reduce lifetime of engine however, would give you easily 40-100bhp based on type..

I was always happy with my mk5 r32 stock, didnt feel like i needed a turbo to be honest :D

I'm running a MKV GTI Stage 2 APR remap which has been on the rollers at 253bhp, so it's about the same power as the R32, though I'm guessing it might be a little quicker to accelerate with it being a bit lighter than the R32?

FI the R32 don't come cheap and the other thing to consider is you lose a lot of the growl with a turbo. Depends what your after as selling it soon after will leave you seriously out of pocket. Do your research. I'm in the process of building a 600+ bhp monster and I'm the first person to say I need my head tested......
