Std mk5 vs ed 30 mpg difference?
« on: January 25, 2013, 01:25:17 am »
Is there a big difference in mpg between the 2 both not remapped? Are there differences with tax/insurance?

No, shouldn't be a huge diff. MPG vary of course, but mine with the K03 would see mpg avg. of 28.5. And now with the K04/S3 injectors, my avg. is usually 28.0. Everyone is going to have differing data for you, but good luck.

My cupra is averaging 27/28 mpg on a 14mile to to work, that includes time in traffic and also sitting ticking over while waiting for the wife. On a run last week it recorded 35mpg which I was impressed with. That's standard, I had to take the map off ecause of the clutch but with it on it was 1-2 mpg better

Tax should be the same but insurance will be higher on the ED (well it was when I was looking to buy a GTI 2 years ago).

In my Edition 30 the trip computer says 38mpg on my commute to work. It's through the countryside doing about 50mph. I do drive it like a girl though changing at around 2000rpm. I know the trip probably isn't 100% accurate but I get 130 miles off of £20 of fuel.

I have owned both gti and i now have edition 30 mpg nothing in it atall mate, its just depends on the way thay are driven, insurance will be little higher on edition 30 as its higher group 17-18 shouldnt be alot more. Running cost between the two very little between them. :happy2:

I tested my car on the last tank of fuel and the indicator said 35.4mpg and I calculated it at 35.3mpg so not bad accuracy  :happy2:

I've had both cars as standard and as was previously mentioned, the ED30 is about 2mpg worse off... but then it makes up for it in other ways  :happy2:

Just don't ask me what my average mpg is in traffic & speed hump ridden South London...  :surprised:

Having had both models, I used to get  28 mpg in my Std GTI's, whereas my Ed30 would get around 26.5 on average,

This is based on a town centre commute so worst case scenario,

Bare in mind these cars have 2 different sized turbo chargers, one single scroll, and one is twin stroll, so the larger turbo ( ed30) will give you marginally worse mpg.

Remapping to improve mpg is fruitless as all you will be doing is satisfying your right foots curiosity that your car goes more like an exercet missile .

best way I can put it.
