Which built in sat nav?
« on: January 25, 2013, 11:43:49 pm »
Has anyone got any recommendations for a built in sat nav radio jobby with bluetooth? There seems a lot on ebay? Also, are the built in sat navs as good as my TomTom IQ routes? Cheers.

I have the Kenwood DNX920BT. Great sat nav, Bluetooth, iPod, DVD and a great stereo to boot. Sat nav is garmin...

if you want OEM then look at the RNS510. 30gb HDD, SD card slot, DVD player, Video in Motion (if enabled), Satnav with speed cameras etc. Looks the part in any MKV Golf.

If you have an iPhone pioneer do an app radio which is a cracking piece of kit and also gives excellent sound and increases the quality of sound from the stock speakers too as a bonus

RNS510 if you want full OEM integration, however the nav is lacking and you can't have audible speed camera warnings!!

I had a Zenec NC2010 also which offers very close to OEM integration, has Igo which takes TomTom mapping with good sound warnings. Integrated Parrot bluetooth and so on

Kenwood do a very nice mk5 based HU, and there are others, it all depends on your aims & sound quality requirements.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I would always recommend the Alpine, from a sound quality point of view and expandability point of view. I will be replacing my RNS soon with the INE-W928R. Nothing like a good 8" screen to play with and perfect integration including display in the MFD.

That Alpine unit looks awesome , how much is that going to cost , and does it fit properly in a mk5?

Retail is around £1200 including the fitting kit for the Mk5 which is plug and play. I can probably do it for around £1000 or so. I would need to double check.

Another kenwood DNX520VBT HERE - fitted at crimbo & well impressed so far, garmin nav has been faultless as has the parrot Bluetooth and it sounds a thousand times better than stock.
Best bit £475 brand spanking new from vw on eBay  :happy2:
