So the breakdown of costs from local indys is -
Genuine VW parts inc Cam belt kit, water pump, antifreeze/corrosion inhibiter, sundries, environmental disposal = £205 (checked and seems correct)
Plus 3 hours labour. Local indys (reputable ones) charge from £64 - £78 per hour. VW about £90 - £110.

Apparently Mk6s are more expensive than Mk5s and diesels more than petrol.....

VW quoted me £439 to have cambelt and waterpump done on my ED30 in next 2 weeks.

Interesting.
Out of interest where are you?
Round here that's cheap

im in essex just outside london.
also if someone near you can do the job using genuine VW parts, they have to match it.

VW originally quoted me 450, but they knocked 20 of the price.

Some good prices there!
Sadly no VW Inchcape near me. Wimbledon I suppose, but a bit of a treck especially if its a long job and the car has to be left.
That's one of the problems with a 5 day a week job and a  busy family life - you have to end up with someone local. Logistics demand it.

Not the case, even though my local dealership in Maidenhead's website states they will price match they wouldn't.

For my ed30 they wanted £499 with water pump, my local seat / skoda dealership wanted £399. Asked VW to price match and they stated £479 was the best they could do as they would be making a loss below this price.

Worth calling your local Seat or Skoda dealerships too.
