It's also worth noting that all the farmers around here have Subarus, there's some pretty battered and old examples around, so they must hold up well.
Sideways yo!

The GF's 2.0XT is on 132k on an 03 plate, and it feels really tight. Tough as old boots.

Remember you will have £40k, not £5k  running costs to go with it.

Is it worth it though? I mean I've no doubt that these engines are good but is the car powered by it any good? The A6 has always just struck me as a barge.

S6 is great.

Also had a 2.7T A6 which was good but loads of driveline shunt. Auto would have been a better choice.

It's a bloody nightmare trying to find a manual petrol one of these. There's only 3 in the country on Autotrader. Like rocking horse sh1t.

Bare in mind tuning an old(ish) turbo car will highlight weaknesses in the mechanicals which could be very costly - clutch, gearbox ect. As cars these are often high mileage you could eng up forking out for a new turbo etc.

Just something to consider before you make your purchase Ian  :happy2:

I think if you are using any vehicle for work and work for yourself in the current climate you do have to think 'what impression of me does this give' and look what our base criteria is which by the sounds of it is 4wd and a decent amount of space, I am very conscious of this for consultancy work I undertake these days and low running, fuel and maintenance costs are key for me.

....Same here in West Dorset/East Devon/South Somerset but I don't think Ian wants something quite so 'agricultural'.

....A mate of mine who lives on Exmoor (highest located house on Exmoor and up a track) is now on his second one - Excellent car but I don't think that the load space will be big enough for Ian.
