Engine noise
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:33:05 pm »
Not long had my eddy but I'm already well aware that the k04 engine isn't known for its wonderful sound track! Listening to my car though it has a slight whining sound on tick over, which increased slightly with a small amount of revs. Don't get me wrong it's not loud, but I can hear it when I have my windows down and it's in a quiet, and relatively enclosed environment, by a wall etc.. So now I'm paranoid it may be something that needs looking at? Can anyone shed some light/aka ease my paranoia lol.

The car had its Cambelt and water pump service 12months ago, so is due a service now on the calendar but has only done about 4k miles in those last 12 months. The car itself has only done 42k miles.

Understand this is a needle in a haystack kind of question. But I'm wondering if its worth a trip to my local vw garage to get them to have a look, or if I'm just being stupid.

Thanks.

It sounds as i one of the belts may be tensioned too tightly. I'd get it checked by someone mechanically minded for peace of mind.

My MKV GTI sounds like its supercharged between 1500 - 2500 rpm... after that its turbo noise :)

Not sure what causes the whine... all I know is that if you stuff your car with females the noise dosn't matter...
Golf MKV GTI 08 Standard. Remember... young females love boost.

Yeah mine is pretty much the same kind of sound in the same kind of rev range. I wouldn't say it's annoying just can't say I remember hearing it before. Probably due to being so engrossed with the performance  :driver:
