Sorry, haven't got much to say about the problem, but feck me,I'm glad my laptop is only just over a year old and running Win7!
I have heard of these sort of problems with win8 and I'll be perfectly honest, that if my laptop died and I had to buy a new one,I would be seriously looking at an AppleMac.
In my view,I think it's hugely arrogant of MS to expect the software companies to play catchup with their OS,because they have made it such a different system from the previous versions and didn't give the software makers a chance to adapt thier products.
Smacks of the old MS bigboy bullying tactics again. :fighting:

Why? Apple do it too. You cant have backward compatibility for ever for every conceiveable product.

WTF?!?!?
Why is it arrogant of MS? IIRC they released a developer version from Sept 2011. That's what 16 months to have a look and set things up? Similar things have happened with other Windows versions. The first year is always hit-and-miss.

The difference between apple and MS is that Apple develop their hardware, whereas MS just develop an OS that has to be compatible with loads of hardware configurations. If MS had gone down the hardware route decades ago, I doubt Apple would have been around today.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

To be fair it's exactly the same as when Apple moved from OS 9 to OS X...

perfectly said buddy, i agree with everything you say apart from the apple thing.
only thing that scares me about buying an apple is taking the time to learn a whole new desktop layout but at least you know that when you invest the time it WILL actually work.

Totally ditched the laptops/ computers now and just fiddle about on the ipad. Luckily I don't need to bring my work home with me so it just about covers things.

Use my iPad more than my laptop now... Made it pretty redundant, there's a great app to Remote Desktop a PC, so all those window program's can be used too.

....Hi Scott (and welcome back!),

Yes there will be a learning curve but one of Apple's great strengths is making the UI (User Interface) both intuitive and very user-friendly and so that learning curve is both easy and enjoyable. You soon get used to it - Just like driving a car after a van.

The downside is that Apple computers are much more expensive than Windows machines.

The bottom line is that both Windows and Macs are just machines that can go wrong. As the Japanese say: "A crashed computer is as valuable as a stone".
