Wow! Will defo stay away from dealers!

Would a normal garage be able to do the job or is it best to go to a vw specialist like aks tuning?

When JKM said my clutch was slipping (not that I've experienced it) I asked VW how much it would cost for a laugh. Came back after taking ages to work out a price and said it was ~£875, the clutch kit they said was ~£250 the rest was labour and VAT

didnt think i was far wrong. Got quoted £233 for a front brake hose replacement from vw as an advisory on my MOT yesturday.

Thing is its a £15 part and they wanted a further £218 to drain and replace the entire fluid!!! even though it was changed last year and shouldnt need to be replaced annually.

Thats alot for the garage Tea boy in the garage to sit in my drivers seat and pump the brake pedel a few times. Amazing what a brake hose clamp stops fluid coming out rather than a complete drain.. :stupid:

sorry off topic but shows if you dont know the right people in the motor trade, you can get seriously shafted..

Did you have another stock one fitted or an uprated one?

I had an uprated Helix Stage 1 fitted by Statlers, was less than that price mentioned above in this thread! Don't get me wrong, the new clutch certainly is stiffer, oh yes, but i'm safe in the knowledge that the clutch wont slip now (he says!!), and it wants to go in every gear now, a lot more than my old standard clutch!! I'm very pleased with it!!!

I'm sure they won't mind me saying that it was £700.00 all in, providing of course they don't discover any further problems along the way!!

Totally agree, that's why I use a specialist now.

As for the brake fluid change,  I believe it's every 2 years

How long a job is it? Can it be done in one day or am I going to have to leave it over night to have the clutch and bearings done?

Whats the protocol RE the DMF - arent you supposed to change clutch and DMF at the same time?
2005 Golf GTI 3 Door - Tornado Red. (2010 - 2012)

2008 Golf GTI 3 Door - Candy White , 18" Monza II's , Leather , Armrest , Rear Park sensors. (current car)

Apparently not if yr DMF is ok! Would have been so easy for them to have said it was knackered, so need a new one and an extra few hundred quid!
