Gti?
« on: January 28, 2013, 09:32:36 pm »
So I've had the mk 5 gti for two weeks now.  It's the wife's motor and I drive a passat 2.0tdi sport so I've not really driven it too much.

The gti is standard and has done 58k on a55 plate.  The problem is, it doesn't feel fast.

Do your standard gti's have some kick to them if you we're to push the pedal down hard?

I'm getting about 32 mpg if I drive it like a vicar.  Sounds lovely, but not what I was expecting for 200 ish bhp.

I'm suspecting DV issues and will change that this weekend as a matter of course.  Any comments welcomed as I should be favouring the gti magic to the soot burner surely??'

Have you had anyone run a diagnostics check on the car to see if there is any faults? Solid be my first port of call. Did you buy from a main dealer, take it back and get them to have a look at it if I were you.

The torque on the standard GTI is lower than your soot chucker; ~210lb/ft vs 240lb/ft the GTI is definitely faster though.
Grab a decent map for the GTI and the torque will be ~300lb/ft and 240-250bhp; assuming you have K03, if you have K04 expect around 300bhp from a map.

What 2.0 have you got - the 140 or 170?

I had a remapped 140 and they are very perky cars for general road use, it's the low down grunt that makes the feel fairly quick around the doors.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I had the same on my 55 plate GTI a couple of months ago.
Got the DV changed - the diaphram was split.
Also had the plugs changed at he same time - they had probably done 50K
Different motor! Picks up well from low down and keeps on going......
Does not always feel as fast as my wifes 2.0 diesel with that low to mid grunt - but it is. oh yes!

BTW get the HPFP tappet checked if it has not been done.
