Lowering! Advice needed...
« on: January 31, 2013, 08:16:02 pm »
Hi all..

I am thinking of getting the Gti a little lower to the tarmac, and would like any advice on best way to do this and what is best.  Dont really have loads to spend as saving for a bloody wedding at moment and need some time with the car when back from tour.

Can you just change the springs or best to change the lot? Dont want to go crazy low as need to get over the speed bumps in my area!  Seen some springs for sale on here.  But be nice to having it a liitle lower.  What is best for handling also as dont want to cause damage or ruin the ride.

Any help would be most grateful.  Cheers   Oli

i am in the same boat as you mate so i opted for a set of FK ak street coilovers £193 delivered off ebay from venom motorsports, still waiting to put them on so cant say if i chose the right option, but atleast i can go as low as i want rather than just a set height that you get from springs alone

alot of people go for the H&R springs , by the looks of things gives it a lovely drop not too low so you get probe. just enough to settle the wheels into the arches.

defo what im going for!

How tricky are the coilovers and how they work?  Can you change the height of them i take it.  Prob to the change myself if can.  Just bit confussed as to whats best.

coilovers are easy to set up they are just a threaded strut so you just wind them down to your prefered height then lock them off

Coilovers are good as in you can set the height just how you want , but I allways think its best to buy some with a bit of quality ie kw's or weiltec , if you want springs then eibach , h&r or koni sport I would recomend , they usually say -40mm is safe on factory dampers so any lower and your looking for uprated shortened dampers , if you want value then checkout fk , if you look at there website they were selling some with big discounts , I checked this week and for mk5 golf with -45mm drop they were £29 !!!!!8)

Got H&R springs on mine which give a 30mm drop. That's a good amount for me as I also have some stupidly high speed bumps in my area.

I have eibachs at the moment, lower 30mm, check my porsche wheels for sale in the for sale section and you can see what the drop is on the car  :happy2:
