Lowering! Advice needed...

Recently just did this.

1) Cheapest, effective way to do it is with a decent set of springs Eibach or H&R . Both will lower it enough to improve handling but with out going so low that you have issues driving around town. £160

2) Coilovers allow the ability to set the car up to a particular ride hight but to get one that gives you a decent ride as well, you need to pay decent money. The cheap kits wont do it. £800+

3) If you want the best improvement in handling over a huge height drop, go for a decent set of uprated shocks with matching springs. £500

I went for the Eibach sport line springs and the ride is just low enough to fill the arches perfectly, handling is amazing and the ride quality is almost exactly the same as OEM.

Also look at getting a SuperPro ALK fitted at the same time, I did both and it was like getting back a different car.

Hi all..

I am thinking of getting the Gti a little lower to the tarmac, and would like any advice on best way to do this and what is best.  Dont really have loads to spend as saving for a bloody wedding at moment and need some time with the car when back from tour.

Can you just change the springs or best to change the lot? Dont want to go crazy low as need to get over the speed bumps in my area!  Seen some springs for sale on here.  But be nice to having it a liitle lower.  What is best for handling also as dont want to cause damage or ruin the ride.

totally agree with all this ....what drop did the eibachs give you , im looking to drop a tdi golf wagon so its quite high but didn't want to go too low plus I'm on 16" atlantas and didn't want to change these or dampers

I have H&Rs on mine and they are great, soon to come off as iv got some KW coilovers going on!

I didn't measure the before or after drop to be honest.

But looking at the car it doesn't look slammed but it does look like the wheels are perfectly filling the arches.

I would guess about 20mm drop all round and they had settled when that picture was taken.

You should end up with about the same look as your standard springs are much longer to start with, so your drop would in theory be more but end up the same as mine.

God this is all waaaay over my head, I wouldn't know what to buy. There are so many options on SuperPro's website. I haven't a clue...hah
