How to refix door mirror glass?
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:43:40 pm »
When cleaning the car tonight I noticed that the N/S door mirror glass was sliding about. It then slipped off into my hand! Good job it didn't fall off in the road...
So question is - whats the best way to refix it?
I've done a search and found double sided sticky pads - not sure about that as there will be a gap - the heater might not work so well and things may get in the gap.
Double sided tape - will the adhesive soften with the heater or warm sun (if we ever get any!)
Super glue - will it hold the glass onto plastic?
I have a long motorway journey tomorow and I don't fancy not being able to see the inside lane........

Anybody done the job with success?

The glass is sort of 'see through' presumably a form of anti glare?

Thanks out there

In the past i have used a hot glue gun and Silicon sealant, both did the the trick.
2016 Mk7 Golf GTD - Reflex Silver with stuff.

VCDS Hex+Can - Will code for beer!

Thanks for the info.
I would have used Silicone sealant but the cure time was at least 24 hrs for strength.
I only had about 2 hrs so I used Wickes Rapid Mitre Bond. Instant and very strong but get the positioning right - there is no second chance!
