Slack gear lever, adjustable?
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:05:14 am »
After having some unrelated work done at a local garage, I immediately noticed that the gear lever felt very sloppy, no real resistance or spring back in sideways movement.  Engaging gears is fine.

Is there any shaft adjustment / spring that can be serviced to get that usual GTI gear lever feel back?
A case of removing the gear surround... Or is it more involved?

Try to 'reset' the linkages. Follow the steps at the end of this guide:
 http://www.forgemotorsport.com/media/Short%20Shifter%20Install(1).pdf

I recently installed a short shift so had cause to follow this procedure. I used a 5mm drill bit in the cabin instead of a nail.

To improve it even more after that you can change the rubber bushes in t the cable ends to Design Draft 42 ones.  Nice Direct feel.

While your at it, the AKS shifter cable bracket bushes too

Just to return to this again :) Do you reckon this is definitely the gear linkage bushings?

When in gear (any gear) there is horizontal play of about 15mm.

Where do you guys get your dd42 bushes from?  Direct from the states or is there a company in the UK doing them?
Also, anyone have part numbers for the standard bushes in case I hate the DD42 ones?

Cool, thanks, just ordered myself... don't have a short shifter so should be ok.

Let's hope they have them instock and not make me wait for 3 months!

Anyone know the P/N for the standard ones?

FFS, not this cr@p again, I swore I wouldn't order from Awesome again because of this.

I could open up my own online store with the same mentality... NO STOCK, just lots of products and nice user interface, then order on demand.

Argghh.
